In these paintings, the bed serves as a symbol of both security and transience. Over the past year, as I traveled across the country and faced personal changes, I photographed various beds—each one reflecting a different facet of our quest for safety amidst uncertainty. The global pandemic further highlighted this search for stability, with many facing isolation, illness, and loss. Through these paintings, I explore the human condition in the face of crisis, urging us to confront our shared vulnerabilities and recognize that safety and security are not universally assured. By humanizing one another, we can foster empathy and strive for greater equity in these challenging times.
